Nandilath GMart Review: Nandilath G Mart Kannur, Thrissur, Trivandrum, Calicut, Ernakulam

I have brought home appliances from Nandilath GMart in Thrissur, Trivandrum, Kunnamkulam and Kannur. Normally I chose them because of the brand name they created and the quality of their showrooms. But now I found that they have been selling consumer goods at a higher price than that of other shops.

My latest experience with Nandilath GMart Kannur is as follows

I went to Nandilath GMart Kannur showroom to buy a refrigerator two days back. The salesman was good and explained us about various brands and we finalised to buy a Samsung 24Y 230 L model. On enquiry with the manager the salesman told that the fridge which has an MRP of Rs. 15990 can be purchased at a discounted price of Rs. 11990 along with exchanging our old fridge

Since that was a good offer we gave an advance amount and booked it and they told that the balance amount can be paid on delivery.

Before leaving the showroom we had a look at the LCD range of televisions since we was planning to buy one in the near future (Nandilath has good display of appliances!). After sometime the salesman came running in and told that they had a mistake in calculating the price of the fridge I booked and we have to pay Rs. 13990, ie 2000 Rs more for it and also they will not consider exchanging our old fridge. Since we already paid the advance we agreed to pay more. When we insisted in exchanging our old fridge, the arrogant manager like man sitting in front of the cash counter argued that they cant provide exchange offer at this price.
We had earlier enquired the price of the model at Nikshan Electronics, the other leading dealer in Kannur, and they had agreed to provide it for Rs. 12800 inclusive of an exchange offer of Rs. 1000/- for our old fridge. The Nandilath GMart offer was Rs. 1190 more than the nearest competitior and that too without an exchange.

Unfortunately we had to buy the fridge at a greater price without an exchange since we had already paid an amount as advance to the firm.

When I asked the Manager that selling appliances with greater price than their competitiors would affect their brand image, he replied that they are offering some gift coupon with which the customer can get a flat, cars, gold etc.

C'mon Nandilath GMart, We customers wants quality product, service at a reasonable price and not gift coupons.

Here is some of my findings on purchasing home appliances

Before buying a branded product from any retailer check the price, model name, features, accessories information from atleast 3-5 shops and also from the company website. This will help you to demand the lowest price from any dealer you like.

A shop which has a huge showroom or the one which gives many advertisements may not always be good. In my experience several small dealers give atleast 1000/- rupees less that what the bigger retailers do.

Before payment make sure you are shown the model (not the demo piece but the model which you are being delivered) opened from the package and must be checked for scratches, working complaints in front of you. Some retailers often pack the demo piece which has been kept in the showroom for demonstration purpose and deliver it when new models arrive.

Nowadays direct company showrooms are available for brands like Sony, LG, etc. They offer more customer support.

Spending 2-3 hours more before shopping is better than wasting 2-3 weeks after it for service and filing complaints.

Customer is the KING!
