Trekking in a Jeep to Manpara, Nelliyampathy

Once again during April-May, I got the chance to visit the Nelliyampathy hill station renowned for its unexplored natural beauty. This time it was an official trip with my colleagues.

Eventhough I have gone to Nelliyampathy before, I couldn't visit the Manpara peak, because only Jeep and that too four-wheel drives is the only mode by which we can get there.

This time we had a team of 18 and hired two Jeeps for which they charged Rs. 500/- for a vehicle. But believe me the trip to Manpara was worth than bucks. The road was very rough, it seemed to be made up of huge rocks and was inclined upto the hill top.

We had ten people in our Jeep, which was more than it could carry and the jerky uphill ride gave us a feeling of something that are only available in amusement/themeparks. We were yelling, crying, laughing while travelling through the unbelievable path in the jungle. Our driver showed his experience by overtaking the other jeeps which were on his way, eventhough there was not much space for it.

Altogether the trip to Nelliyampathy, especially to the Manpara peak was awesome, terrific and fascinating. Even though I had gone to Hilly areas in Jeeps, those were better tracks, but this road was steep and rocky. Trekking in a Jeep was not exciting ever before.

So whenever anyone plans to go to Nelliyampathy (Popular Hill Station in Palakkad District, Kerala, India) dont miss this trekking ride and that too in a Jeeeeeeep.
