As per the Domain Name Industry Brief published by VeriSign Inc, the Internet now has as many as over 183 million (18,30,00,000)domain names in the first quarter of 2009.
This number is a 3 percent increase over the fourth quarter of 2008 and a 12 percent increase over the same quarter in 2008.
The total number of domain names in India was 1.4 million as on March 31, 2009, with approximately 800,000 .com and .net domain names.
Dot com ( .com ) remains the most popular domain extension, followed by .cn (China), .de (Germany) and .net respectively.
The total number of Country Code TLDs (ccTLDs) - .in, .ch, .us etc represents 74.1 million domain names in the internet.
